IT Home, August 30 — Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), stated in a post today that China's auto imports in July 2026 reached 43,000 units, down 13% year-on-year. Cui Dongshu noted that auto imports from January to July 2026 totaled 240,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 11%, with imports of high-value four-wheel-drive SUVs performing particularly poorly. Thanks to the boost from a low base in early 2025, the 31% decline in retail sales of imported cars to 220,000 units in the first seven months of this year was not too bad. However, the performance in July, which saw a drop to 27,000 units and a 40% decline, was very poor, and future pressure remains high. IT Home learned that the top 5 countries for imports in July 2026 were: Japan: 23,587 units Germany: 7,479 units United States: 4,855 units United Kingdom: 3,094 units Slovakia: 1,839 units The top 5 countries for imports from January to July 2026 were: Japan: 127,080 units Germany: 51,790 units United States: 22,587 units Slovakia: 15,359 units United Kingdom: 13,949 units Cui Dongshu revealed that against the backdrop of continuous declines in imported cars in recent years, this year's luxury market trends have diverged. Lexus sales have remained relatively stable, maintaining its position as the top imported luxury car brand. Some ultra-luxury brands have experienced abnormal fluctuations, showing signs of a collapse, indicating significant operational pressure within the industry.
