Amazon AWS Doubles Down on Government AI as OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic Models Land on GovCloud
On August 31, IT Home reported that Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced yesterday that it has expanded the availability of AI models in GovCloud. U.S.
government agencies can now access large AI models from companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta, as well as Amazon's own Nova models, through the Amazon Bedrock channel.
AWS GovCloud is specifically designed for U.S. government agencies, aiming to provide a cloud computing environment that meets government regulatory, security, and external isolation requirements.
Amazon stated regarding the development: "We are pleased to announce that AWS GovCloud (U.S.) can now offer a variety of AI models through Amazon Bedrock, providing government customers, the defense industry, and technology partners with a range of AI models."
Amazon's AWS business is currently maintaining strong growth. In the second quarter of 2026, AWS operating profit increased by 63% year-over-year, and revenue grew by 37% year-over-year. The robust performance of the AI and chip businesses is a significant factor driving this growth.
Amazon management expects that AWS revenue could eventually reach $1 trillion (IT Home note: approximately 6.74 trillion RMB at current exchange rates). Currently, about 85% of global IT spending is still allocated to on-premises environments, which means the cloud computing market still possesses considerable room for growth.
