Nissan and Honda Sign Joint Development Agreement to Standardize Core Technologies for Next-Gen Software-Defined Vehicles by FY2029

IT Home, August 31 — Nissan and Honda announced today that they have signed a joint development agreement to jointly advance the standardization of core technologies for next-generation software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

According to reports, the scope of standardization covers multiple core electronic control units (ECUs), as well as the in-vehicle operating systems, key middleware components, and vehicle control software running on these ECUs.

IT Home has learned that the two companies plan to officially apply this electrical and electronic architecture, which integrates the jointly developed ECUs and software, to their respective next-generation SDV models starting from fiscal year 2029 (April 1, 2028, to March 31, 2029).

Under the agreement, the two parties will collaboratively formulate technical specifications, covering common standards for multiple core ECUs, in-vehicle operating systems, key middleware components, and overall vehicle control software under the next-generation SDV electrical and electronic architecture.

Official statements indicate that by standardizing these foundational technologies, Nissan and Honda aim to integrate their engineering expertise and R&D resources. While improving R&D efficiency and accelerating technological innovation, they also seek to effectively share and reduce R&D costs, leveraging greater economies of scale to comprehensively enhance their market competitiveness.
