US Adds Italian Secure Hosting Provider to Terrorist List
On Wednesday, the US State Department and the Treasury Department placed the Italian organization Autistici/Inventati, which provides services such as encrypted chat and email, web hosting, secure video conferencing, and streaming, on the Specially Designated Global Terrorist list. This means that any transactions between US citizens and the organization are illegal. One reason cited by the State Department is that the organization provided digital infrastructure for far-left groups such as Antifa, allowing far-left militants to "disseminate targeted messages, tactical manuals and techniques, as well as notices of recent attacks" while remaining "anonymous, untraceable, and safe from legal consequences.
" The move by the US government has sparked widespread controversy and could lead to the blocking of the organization's domain, autistici.org, by US domain authorities. In a statement released in both English and Italian, Autistici/Inventati denied all US allegations, stating that it provides a platform for digital self-defense tools and arguing that the sole purpose of the US government's action is to divert public and media attention from its own acts of violence and warmongering.
