Shanghai Telecom Hit by Widespread Outage Affecting Broadband and Mobile Services
IT Home, August 30 — According to user reports, Shanghai Telecom experienced another widespread outage this evening, affecting both broadband and mobile signals. Users reported that the customer service hotline was completely unreachable.
User feedback indicated that multiple areas, including Jiading, Pudong, Baoshan, and Yangpu, were affected, with broadband and mobile signals experiencing simultaneous interruptions over a wide range. A large number of users reported that the 10000 customer service hotline was unreachable, and the fault reporting channels on the telecom's app and mini-program were paralyzed, blocking avenues for user assistance and leaving them to verify the outage online. Multiple users stated that restarting their optical modems and routers after the disconnection was ineffective; they initially suspected issues with their own equipment or phone bills, only to eventually discover it was a large-scale carrier outage.
IT Home noted that this is not the first time Shanghai Telecom has experienced a similar incident. At approximately 17:30 on August 26, 2024, Shanghai Telecom experienced service anomalies for some cloud broadband users, which were fully restored by 18:05 the same day following emergency repairs. In the early hours of March 31, 2026, a city-wide outage also occurred, affecting multiple districts including Pudong, Baoshan, Yangpu, and Jinshan, lasting about 20 minutes to 1 hour.
The official causes for both incidents were never clearly disclosed.
As of press time, Shanghai Telecom has not yet released an official statement regarding this outage.
