Rumor: Sony's State of Play is likely arriving in September

August 30 — A highly reliable gaming industry insider claims that PlayStation is very likely to host a State of Play presentation in September this year, and the event could arrive "very soon."

The past week has been incredibly dense with gaming news, featuring both the Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast and the long-awaited gameplay reveal of GTA 6. While many expected things to quiet down afterward, the current landscape suggests there will be no "slow season" for gaming news in the short term.

Several major games are still slated for release in the coming weeks, such as The Blood of Dawnwalker, Wolverine, and Onimusha. Meanwhile, game publishers are expected to continue holding more presentations to reveal new information.

On X, a user asked whether a State of Play would take place in September. In response, reliable industry leaker NateTheHate replied that he is still trying to confirm the exact date, but currently, it seems "highly likely" and should arrive "very soon."

This news is hardly surprising, as PlayStation traditionally holds a State of Play in September. However, considering PlayStation's current game lineup, this presentation should still be quite compelling.

In addition to God of War: Laufey, which already has a confirmed release date, other games that have been quiet for some time might make an appearance, such as Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the previously rumored Venom game, and possibly even Spider-Man 3.

However, since Wolverine is launching in September, Insomniac likely wants players to focus on Logan rather than paying premature attention to the studio's future projects.

Furthermore, there is a possibility that Sony could use this State of Play to address the recent controversy surrounding physical game releases.

Although Sony has previously shared some information during investor calls and similar events, the backlash from players regarding the physical release strategy has been intense, and Sony's specific plans remain quite vague.
