Germany's Sovereign Tech Fund Grants Over 500,000 Euros to Flatpak
Germany's Sovereign Tech Fund will grant 508,640 euros over the next two years to support the Flatpak project, aiming to build a more secure and refined sandboxing platform. Flatpak, a Linux application packaging format spearheaded by Red Hat and similar to Canonical's Snap, provides a sandbox environment that isolates running applications from the rest of the system. The funding will be utilized to develop several key features, including audio isolation around PipeWire, new network isolation capabilities, allowing third-party VPN apps to manage system-level connections, writing assistance, and password autofill.
